Mission Statement

RAINBOWS is an International not-for-profit organization, with charitable status in Canada, that fosters emotional healing among children grieving a loss from a life-altering crisis. These losses, among others, include separation, divorce, death, incarceration and foster care.

Description

RAINBOWS partners with communities to offer a peer support program for children, youth and adults who have experienced a separation, divorce, death or other painful transition within their family. The mission of Rainbows is to assist participants sort through their pain and confusion, build self-esteem and learn positive coping strategies to deal with their loss. This process takes place through the children in a group acting as peer support along with a well-trained adult facilitator - in a safe and nurturing environment. The emphasis is on the unconditional acceptance that is fostered in the group which promotes positive behaviour changes and encourages growth and healing. The 14 session program is offered at no cost to participants. Over 1,625 RAINBOWS sites exist in 519 Canadian communities. This program can be found in school systems, places of worship, YMCA's and social service agencies.
Catholic Community Services (CCS) and St. John Brebeuf are proud to present this program in the St. John Brebeuf Parish.
The program will be limited a group of 18 children from Grades 1-6; in groups of 5 children in each level. Level 1 (Grades 1-2); Level 2 (Gr.3-4) and Level 3(Gr. 5-6).

Rainbows Update

Please use this opportunity to register your child for this program. (Registration: October 25 – Nov. 7th). Parents can pick up a registration form at the back of the church or by calling the office at St. John Brebeuf 514-366-0131 and ask for Dawn Barrick Extension 223. You may also call Mary DeLeskie at 514-636-7560.

Seven wonderful adults participated in an all day training session on Saturday, Oct. 16th to prepare to facilitate the RAINBOWS program with the children. We are now ready to start this program on Saturday, Nov. 13th – in the Rectory of St. John Brebeuf Parish at 1-2 p.m. The sessions are approximately 45 minutes for the children. Parents/Guardians are welcomed to stay in a separate room with coffee, tea and cookies.
